Pre-filing diversion program

This program provides a service-based alternative to criminal charges for some people who have been ticketed by Seattle Police Department for Driving With a License Suspended 3 (DWLS 3). The aim of this program is to reduce racial disparities in criminal cases filed against individuals historically categorized in the criminal justice system as Black, Latino, Native American/Alaskan Native and the groups of persons of color that we know are not being counted.

According to the New York Times, as many as ten million people across the country have their license suspended for owing the courts debt. Sometimes referred to as “driving while poor,” this pattern of criminalization presents a huge barrier to people with few financial resources, often trapping folks in a cycle of debt. That is why LELO, in partnership with the Seattle City Attorney's Office, seeks to divert people from criminal charges and instead help people get back on their feet.

If you have been issued a Driving With License Suspended in the 3rd Degree ticket by Seattle Police, you may be eligible to participate in our Pre-Filing Diversion program.

Participants will receive the following individual services:
        - Individual re-licensing support, including a Needs Assessment

- Referral to free support services

- Financial assistance with DOL fees

- Assistance to enroll into pre-apprenticeship training for individuals interested in the construction fields.

Upon successful completion of this program participants will not face prosecution and the city not pursue any criminal cases for these tickets. To see if you qualify contact us today.
